About Speaking Time Calculator

Our Mission

Speaking Time Calculator was born from a simple but crucial need: helping speakers respect their audience's time while delivering maximum value. Whether you're preparing a TED talk, a business presentation, or a wedding speech, timing is everything.

We believe that great communication starts with great preparation. Our platform provides speakers with the tools and insights they need to craft perfectly timed presentations that engage, inform, and inspire.

The Story Behind the Tool

As a software engineer who speaks at events from time to time, I found myself constantly struggling with one challenge: fitting quality content into precise time slots. Conference organizers would give me 20 minutes, and I'd either rush through 30 minutes of material or find myself with awkward gaps.

I searched for tools that could help me calculate speaking time accurately, but everything I found was either too basic or didn't account for the nuances of natural speech patterns. So, I decided to build my own solution.

What started as a personal project has evolved into a platform used by thousands of speakers worldwide. From students preparing class presentations to executives delivering keynotes, our calculator has helped speakers nail their timing and deliver more confident, effective presentations.

Jacek Kolodziejczyk

Software Engineer & Conference Speaker

Hi! I'm Jacek, a software engineer and conference speaker who has given talks at tech events across Europe. After years of preparing presentations β€” and repeatedly running over time, rushing through slides, or finishing awkwardly early β€” I built Speaking Time Calculator to solve my own problem.

The tool started as a personal script I used before every talk to sanity-check my timing. Once I shared it with a few colleagues and saw them use it before their own presentations, I turned it into a proper web app. I've been iterating on it ever since, informed by my own experience preparing talks and by the questions and feedback from the thousands of speakers who use it.

I read widely on communication psychology, cognitive science, and public speaking research β€” which is where a lot of the blog content comes from. When something I read changes how I think about preparing a talk, I write about it here.

Our Vision for the Future

We're constantly working to improve the Speaking Time Calculator based on user feedback and emerging research in communication science. Our roadmap includes:

  • Multi-language support: Accounting for different speaking patterns across languages
  • Advanced analytics: Deeper insights into speech patterns and optimal timing
  • Integration tools: Seamless integration with popular presentation software
  • Educational resources: Expanded blog content with speaking tips and timing strategies

Our goal is to become the go-to resource for anyone who wants to improve their speaking skills and deliver perfectly timed presentations.
